How could we forget the Castilian — or Kastila — whose name traces back to the Kingdom of Castile, the historic region in central and northern Spain. When Castile united with Aragon in the 15th century, the Castilian language became the official tongue of the newly formed Spanish kingdom, eventually spreading across the world through colonisation.

Charls has been developing new designs for the Kastila, drawing inspiration from iconic figures throughout the colonial era. His work captures the layered identities of soldiers, officials, explorers, and opportunists who found themselves entangled in the politics of the archipelago.

Although the Kastila aren’t the main antagonists in the game — they’re often overused as the default kontrabida — they play a crucial role in shaping the choices available to the player. Their presence adds political tension and strategic complexity. In some situations, you might need their help to counter the Wakō pirates… or you might find yourself siding with the pirates to undermine the Kastila. When both factions collide, who do you trust?
